As 2020 draws to a close, we wanted to say thank you to you: the audience, filmmakers, partners, sponsors, and animation lovers.
The year has been a tough one for all. We were planning for MIAF in mid-late 2020, but COVID-19 put an end to that. MIAF 2020 was cancelled in May, but we straight away looked ahead to what was possible.
By September we had some momentum. We launched the artwork for MIAF 20][21 with an article by Soncha Iacono. Well worth a read.
October saw the celebration of International Animation Day. And Victoria on Film looked back at the Australian classic Mary & Max (2009).
In November we picked up the pace. First, after a long review of our records, we relaunched our mailing list. The newsletters are going out the first week of each month.
Film submissions for MIAF 20][21 opened on 16 November 2020. A bit later than normal, but think you’ll agree that the online form is soooo much better than the old paper one.
We look forward to sharing more animation articles and interviews over the coming months. And we’re hoping to confirm dates for MIAF 20][21 in the first few months of the new year (fingers crossed!)
From all of us at Team MIAF, we hope you all have a happy holidays and safe festive season. We are excited to return to cinemas in 2021 and share some amazing animation with you all.
