International Competition Program #3 – REPEAT
The International Competition Programs are the backbone of the entire MIAF mission. Drawn from more than 2,450 submissions they showcase the best, most imaginative animating talent on the planet. For Programs 1 to 5 the only rule is diversity: you’ll get a bit of everything! For Programs 6 to 10 we take the opportunity to highlight interesting themes and styles that felt prominent in the year’s submissions.
This program includes a cluster of films from a kind of who’s-who of MIAF friends and alumni. Shaun Clark (who made our trailer back in 2005) hits us with ANGRY CARS, which drew wild applause at its LIAF screening late last year; Hannes Rall (who made our trailer in 2009) returns to his wonderful, bold block-colour style with DOBRINA and Donato Sansone graces us with another of his trademark wild mega paper montage mini-masterpieces DARK GLOBE. But the program opens with perhaps the most poignant film we will screen this year, HOUSE OF LOVE, which was made and completed by Coco Cripps using the artwork of UK animator Emma Calder who left us last year, leaving behind one of the more beloved catalogues of animated gems.
