SUMMARY:Abstract Showcase [2024]
DESCRIPTION:\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nThe International Competition Programs are the backbone of the entire MIAF mission. Drawn from more than 2,000 submissions they showcase the best, most imaginative animating talent on the planet in a series of programs in which the only rule is diversity.\n\n\n\nMIAF is one of the very few animation festivals in the world to devote an entire program to abstract and experimental animation. We do this because we believe that the tenets that underpin great abstract animation go to the very heart of what it is to create beautiful, frame by frame animated imagery; a form of animated artmaking with a history that reaches back to the earliest days of the animation.\n\n\n\nAlso – we do it because we love abstract animation!!\n\n\n\nThis Collage Life – Paul Fletcher\n\n\n\nThis Collage LifePaul FletcherAustralia, 7’10, 2024A feeling of living in a collage; so many layers of simultaneous events, influences and inspirations, sadness and joy.\n\n\n\nMind Over Mood – Ecem Mora\n\n\n\nMind Over MoodEcem MoraEstonia, 2’18, 2015Colour, shapes and weather. All play on our mind and affect our mood.\n\n\n\nFok Nabo Distorio – Francesco Rosso\n\n\n\nFok Nabo DistorioFrancesco RossoEstonia, 7’04, 2014A riveting experiment in form, motion, and sound is created through the manipulation of multiple light sources and transparent objects.\n\n\n\nEternal Casket – Beta Hsu, Yun Chu, Sofya Antonova, Thore Flynn Hadre\n\n\n\nEternal CasketBeta Hsu Yun Chu, Sofya Antonova, Thore Flynn HadréeHong Kong, 3’24, 2022Romantic neon light, colourful billboards, and gleaming blurry images dazzle the pilgrims at the shrine.\n\n\n\nPierce – Xing Tong\n\n\n\nPierceXing TongHong Kong, 1’14, 2021An intensely imagined study in surface textures, crafted in charcoal and watercolour, abstractly visualising the concept of “pierce.”\n\n\n\nGabriel’s Oboe – Jean Detheux (Music, Frank Mento)\n\n\n\nGabriel’s OboeJean Detheux (Music, Frank Mento)Canada, 2’22, 2024Inspirations collided when a digital artist (Detheux) and a renowned musician (Mento) learned that they shared a love for Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe.”\n\n\n\nSimple Forms – Natalia Ryss\n\n\n\nSimple FormsNatalia RyssIsrael, 3’30, 2023What is Sound? What is Music? …what is Rain?
