SUMMARY:IAD International Shorts Showcase [2023]
DESCRIPTION:Please not this session is rated: Unrestricted M (Mature) – Restricted to persons aged 15 and over unless accompanied by an adult.\nTICKETS\n(sold out) VERY LIMTED late release tickets available!\nIndie animated shorts are the engine room of the international animation world. They’re the backbone of pretty much every animation festival in the world and the core element of the MIAF mission. Literally thousands are made every year and the best of them speak volumes for the dazzlingly creative possibilities that the unique properties of animation offer the artist with the imagination and skill to fully exploit them.\nASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation), the international organisation devoted to cultivating and promoting the art, craft and profession of Animation – and the overseers of International Animation Day events around the world – threw open their doors to animators who wanted to offer their latest films for consideration at all IAD screenings.\nThis program brings together an inspiring, eclectic collection of these new films and in the process provides a great snapshot of what’s happening in the world of auteur, independent animation right now.\nFittingly, the program opens with an outstanding, eye-popping, brain-bending new Australian film that will be introduced by its creator, Georgia Kriss. Georgia will walk us through some of the original artwork, run a couple of pieces of early developmental animation, and take a couple of questions from the floor before we knuckle down to see what the rest of the world has to offer.\nManimorphs – Georgia Kriss\nManimorphs\nGeorgia Kriss\nAustralia, 11’12, 2022\nA surreal-hilarious jaunt following three lab-test animals who get a crash course in humanity after being doused in a mysterious chemical, morphing into (kinda) humans and escaping their cages.\nAfter The After Party – Jess Mountfield\nAfter The After Party\nJess Mountfield\nUK, 2’55, 2022\nAfter a couple of drinks, a girl admits to her best friend that she’s always wanted to know what it would feel like to be kissed by another girl.\n7 Missing – Yuval Katz\n7 Missing\nYuval Katz\nIsrael, 7’00, 2022\nAgent M, a post-traumatic special agent, embarks on a transformative mission to retrieve six missing agents from a mysterious shaman.\nOnly Human – Nolan J. Downs\nOnly Human\nNolan J. Downs\nUSA, 4’00, 2022\nYou know that the natural order has changed when the slugs have risen up and appear to be none too choosey about who they chew on.\nThe Sprayer – Farnoosh Abedi\nThe Sprayer\nFarnoosh Abedi\nIran, 8’45, 2022\nIn a land contaminated and occupied by the Sprayer army no one is permitted to grow any kind of plant and doing so is considered a seditious act punishable by death.\nThe Cactus – Ricardo Kump\nThe Cactus\nRicardo Kump\nBrazil, 10’25, 2022\nFinding himself paralysed in a remote and hostile environment, a man turns to an inner force to help him adjust to a whole new reality.\nFly – Patty Stenger\nFly\nPatty Stenger\nNetherlands, 2’25, 2023\nMargot’s daughter might be trying to decide what’s best for her mother but Margot has plenty of her own ideas on that subject, thank you very much.\nFur – Zhen Li\nFur\nZhen Li\nUSA, 6’30, 2022\nA crush gone mouldy. The mind can take us places we sometimes refuse to recognise but know all too well.\nAshkasha – Laura Maltz\nAshkasha\nLaura Maltz\nSpain, 6’17, 2022\nGuided by the power of her curiosity, Ashkasha embarks on a bizarre journey into an uncanny world in search of her missing head.\nTICKETS\n(sold out) VERY LIMTED late release tickets available!\n
