As Australia’s animation capital, over the years Melbourne has played a significant part in the development of the whole range of hybrid, hyper-creative forms of animation that fill all of the non-traditional, non-cinematic spaces that animation has happily intertwined into over the years. VJing, backdrops for dance parties, huge installations and mind-blowing outdoor projections. These outlets and more are the preserve of animators that often work at the very forefront of what is technically possible. Their visions, seldom even remotely narrative, are the realisation of some of the most complex abstract imaginations around and when those visions meld with the technical expertise to get them projected the result is pure magic.
This session brings together a lively panel of some of the leading exponents of the form, lead by John Power one of the true leaders of the field. Examples of their work and pieces of work that have inspired them will bring a new dimension to your thinking of what animation can achieve.
