“Hothouse” is one of the more innovative animation mentoring initiatives out there. Created by the National Film Board of Canada (of course!), it brings a small group of Canada’s most promising young animators together for an intensive period under the guidance of an established master of the craft. Time is precious, results are all that matter and the program is geared to extracting more from the filmmakers than they knew they had to give. The goal is to make the best two minute film each of them can make.
Recently, the 10th Hothouse proudly released its results and this was about all we needed to sit down, go through the entire back-catalogue of Hothouse films and piece together a short program of highlights from each consecutive year. It’s a wild ride crashing through the roll-call of short films – but it’s worth it!
* All films in Hothouse 2006 were made in 3D Stereoscopic (3DS) and we are not able to play programs that mix these 3DS films with those in the regular 2D format.
