MIAF 2020 Re-Animated

What’s this? MIAF 2020 Re-Animated is a chance to share some of the highlights of the glorious line-up we were working on before 2020 ruined the party. There were just WAY too many great films to simply let go. MIAF 2020 Re-Animated will give some of them their moment on the big screen where they really belong. Plus we’ll be giving you a sneak peek into what MIAF 2021 in July will be like.

Australian Animation

The Australian Showcase (Official MIAF Opening Screening)

Nobody screens more Australian animation than MIAF. We proudly open the festival each year with the Australian Showcase which surveys the incredible artistry and skill of Australian animators. This is a chance for those great local films to get some time on the big screen, where they belong. Makes sure you don’t miss this chance to catch the best of home-ground films.

International Competition Programs 1 – 3

The back-bone of the whole MIAF mission. Three (1, 2, 3) stunning programs showcasing the awesome diversity of animation made up from 4,000+ submissions. Every technique, every genre, every style – your annual deep-dive into the international indie animation universe.

Crazy films

We have both Friday Freaks and Late Night Bizarre. We thought about just running Late Night Bizarre (as if we’d leave it out) but there was too much crazy for just one screening. A dependably depraved screening of animated specimens from the wrong side of the tracks. MIAF’s annual cult moment!

Q&A with Michael Cusack

We always love having filmmakers come and talk about their work. As a very special treat we have arranged The Making Of “Meanwhile…” & The Return Of Michael Cusack. Michael has been super busy since his last visit to MIAF. We’re really looking forward to hearing about what he has been up to, and talking about his new film Meanwhile, At The Abandoned Factory…

Best Of The Fest + MIAF 2021 Sneak Peek

It all comes down to this the Best Of The Fest. After all the votes, the best emerge. This is the program that screens ‘em. Always popular so get tickets early.

As a special bonus, we’ll have some MAIF 2021 content to share. Expect a few films and all the details on MAIF 2021.

Online films

For the first time ever, MIAF will have some films available online. Doesn’t matter where in Australia you are, there’s no excuse for missing out on some MIAF goodies. Programs will include:

  1. Romantic Chorus (feature)
  2. A Time For Change (shorts)
